Clélie Rich

Clélie Rich won the 1994 Hawthorne Poetry Award with a chapbook entitled In All Her Rooms. Her poetry and fiction have been published in U.S. and Canadian magazines that range from the mainstream (The New Quarterly) to the speculative (ON SPEC). She is also the editor of A Tapestry of Cultures, a 1992 history of Burnaby's ethnic communities.

Her poetry, which has been described as delicate, image- laden, reflective (Burnaby Now), and finely wrought (Burnaby News), explores the range of possibilities beyond surfaces, focusing on topics such as dreams, reincarnation, dance, and the languages of animals and plants.

She is currently working on a full-length poetry manuscript, The Patois of the Body. In 1998, she was one of five women poets included in Quintet: Themes and Variations, an anthology for five voices published in 1998 by Ekstasis Press. In addition to participating in regular poetry readings in the Vancouver area, Clélie runs Rich Words, an editing company which specializes in technical proofreading, textbooks, poetry manuscripts and metaphysical fiction.

When she is not writing or editing, Clélie can be found dancing flamenco or learning to sing flamenco. Her name rhymes with 'daily'. She lives in Kitsilano with an economist and two cats, who all adore her.
